Position Summary

The Fourth Grade Classroom Aide supports the classroom teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, faith-filled, and academically engaging learning environment. The classroom aide works collaboratively with the teacher to provide instructional support, assist individual and small groups of students, reinforce classroom expectations, and help with the daily operation of the classroom.

The classroom aide is expected to model the mission and values of St. John Vianney Catholic School by demonstrating a strong Catholic faith, positive attitude, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to the growth and development of each student.

Essential Responsibilities

Instructional Support

• Assist the fourth-grade teacher with daily classroom instruction and activities.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce skills and concepts taught by the classroom teacher.
• Provide additional support to students who need assistance with reading, writing, mathematics, organization, or other academic tasks.
• Help students remain engaged and focused during independent and group work.
• Assist with preparing instructional materials, copying, organizing, and maintaining classroom resources.
• Support classroom technology and other instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
• Provide appropriate accommodations and support for students as outlined by the classroom teacher or student learning plans.

Classroom Management and Student Support

• Reinforce classroom rules, routines, and expectations established by the teacher.
• Encourage students to demonstrate respect, responsibility, kindness, and good citizenship.
• Assist the teacher in maintaining a positive and orderly classroom environment.
• Help students develop appropriate organizational, study, and work habits.
• Support students in resolving minor conflicts and encourage appropriate problem-solving skills.
• Communicate student concerns or significant behavioral or academic observations to the classroom teacher.
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student information and school matters.

Catholic School Responsibilities

• Support and model the Catholic identity and mission of the school.
• Participate respectfully in school prayer, Mass, faith formation, and other religious activities as directed.

Daily Classroom and School Support

• Assist with classroom transitions, arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other school activities as assigned.
• Help supervise students in accordance with school policies and teacher direction.
• Assist with classroom organization, displays, bulletin boards, and special projects.
• Help prepare the classroom for special events, activities, and school celebrations.
• Perform other duties appropriate to the position as assigned by the classroom teacher or administration.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or experience working with children preferred.
• Previous experience working with elementary-aged children is preferred.
• Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with teachers, staff, students, and families.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Patient, dependable, flexible, and enthusiastic.
• Ability to positively reinforce student behavior and classroom expectations.
• Commitment to supporting the mission and Catholic identity of the school.
• Ability to follow school policies and procedures and work under the direction of the classroom teacher and school administration.
